About Us
Fastback founders, Dennis Fiene and Everett Whatley, are both retired Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) with a combined experience of over fifty years in the detection, prevention and investigation of criminal activities at every level. Since retirement, we have worked with corporate risk management in the private sector for banks, processors, and corporations of all sizes. After thorough research, we have selected the tools that we use for the criminal record searches carefully and believe them to be the best available for conducting background checks.

| About Criminal Record Checks |
| |
| A few things you should understand about available data so that
you can use your funds wisely when ordering background investigations: : |
| • No one can provide you information from the only centralized
criminal history database that exists, the National Criminal
Information Center (NCIC). This database is maintained by the
FBI and is accessible only to law enforcement. |
| • No one can furnish you with pending cases information. |
| • With few exceptions, it is convictions that are reported
rather than charges. |
| • Sometimes charges are reported but the state has not
given the disposition. |
| • If you are a public or charter school, some states
require that you have your employees fingerprinted at your local
police department or sheriff’s office and submitted to
the FBI. We suggest you check with local authorities about the
requirement and fees. |
| • Until very recent years, official criminal and civil
records have been maintained in large books at county courthouses
and some rural counties still require an in person search. |
| • There are 3000 counties in the United States, making
it impractical to send an investigator to each courthouse. |
| • When you check records only in the county where your
applicant resides, you are missing the other 2999 possibilities. |
| • As records from these courts have been collected,
computerized and made available in Statewide searches, errors
have been made. |
| • Similar imperfections reside in other data collection
systems, such as credit bureau reports. |
| • Not all jurisdictions make records available. (see
our coverage page) |
• The Fastback national search will report most felony records
and many misdemeanors. However, WE SUGGEST that you consider
the in-person court search in counties the Fastback report identifies
as recent places of residence. |
|
With these limitations in mind Fastback.biz, Inc. has developed
a comprehensive program utilizing the best available sources of
information relating to convicted criminal and sexual offenders.
